March 9, they decided to stay in the Jesus Luzardo business for the long haul.

The Phillies and Luzardo are in agreement on a five-year contract extension that will keep the left-handed pitcher in Philadelphia through 2031, according to multiple reports Monday.
The Lima, Peru, native went 15-7 with a 3.92 ERA in 32 starts last year for the Phillies. He set career highs in wins, innings pitched (183.2) and strikeouts (216).Phillies Jesus Luzardo extension

The timing of the extension is no coincidence. The Phillies lost left-hander Ranger Suarez in free agency to the Boston Red Sox in January. Right-hander Aaron Nola, 32, is coming off the worst year of his career. Zack Wheeler, 35, is far from guaranteed to return to his All-Star form after undergoing thoracic outlet decompression surgery last year, a procedure that knocked him out for the Phillies’ abbreviated postseason run.

Against this backdrop, Luzardo gives the Phillies a relatively young pillar to hold up their rotation as it transitions to a younger core in the years to come.Phillies Jesus Luzardo extension

Luzardo, 28, is 41-41 with a 4.19 ERA in his career with the Oakland A’s (2019-21), Marlins (2021-24) and Phillies (2025).
