£20k-a-week Sheffield Wednesday target ‘an obvious candidate’ to leave in January
A certain striker wanted by Sheffield Wednesday has now been tipped to leave his current club in the January transfer window.
Sheffield Wednesday appear to be in the market for a striker ahead of next month’s transfer window.
Alan Nixon previously claimed that owner Dejphon Chansiri was ready to spend up to £30,000-a-week on landing a loan striker, with Nixon having since claimed that Birmingham City man Scott Hogan is a player of interest.
The 31-year-old, who reportedly earns £20,000-a-week at Birmingham City, has fallen out of favour under new boss Wayne Rooney, and has now been tipped to leave in January.
Alex Dicken tips Scott Hogan to leave Birmingham City
Birmingham Live journalist Alex Dicken recently discussed Hogan’s situation at St Andrew’s, writing:
“Scott Hogan is an obvious candidate to depart [in January]. The striker started Rooney’s first game at Middlesbrough, but he has been used sparingly ever since. Hogan, now 31, has been an unused substitute in four of Rooney’s nine matches in charge and was linked with Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend.”
Hogan has started just one of Rooney’s nine games in charge, having scored only one goal in 16 Championship appearances so far this season.
In 146 total outings for Blues, Hogan has scored 36 goals, with 67 Championship goals in his career during spells with Brentford and Aston Villa before.
Could Hogan do a job for Sheffield Wednesday?
Hogan has fallen well out of favour at Birmingham City, and it’s surprising given his previous scoring exploits for the club.
Should he leave, he’ll be remember fondly by Birmingham City fans, having been a consistent source of goals over the past few seasons despite their struggles in the Championship.
So he’d certainly add a degree of experience and pedigree to the Wednesday ranks, and if there’s a manager who could get more out of him, it’s Danny Rohl.
He’s got this Sheffield Wednesday side up and running after their poor start and Hogan could be encouraged by that should Sheffield Wednesday come in with an offer.
Along with Bailey Cadamarteri, Rohl could have two very capable no.9s to rotate or potentially deploy alongside each other, which would be an undoubted boost to the Owls’ survival hopes.
With Hogan looking likely to leave in January and Chansiri ready to spend big on a striker, Hogan to Sheffield Wednesday could well be a move that materialises in the New Year.
