Unai Emery, the coach of Aston Villa, has given AC Milan a blow ahead of the start of the January transfer window by expressing his wish to keep Clement Lenglet at the club.
According to Calciomercato.com, Emery’s latest news conference did not go well for Milan when the Spaniard was asked about Milan target Lenglet and his future.
The French central defender is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Barcelona, but he has not been a prominent player for the Villains, with most of his games coming in the Europa League.
As a result, Milan believed there was a deal to be made. It would imply Barcelona terminating his loan with Villa and then reaching an agreement with Milan, which would be difficult but not impossible.
However, it appears like Emery and Villa have no intention of allowing Lenglet go early from his loan, as the coach has emphasized his importance to the squad’s depth.
“Lenglet is an excellent professional. He also came to practice when the players were off. I chatted with him and told him I was really pleased with his improvement. I need him, and the team needs him right now. We have a contract between the club and him to assist us. Nothing has changed in this connection, in my perspective,” he remarked.
Milan will not sign Lenglet until there is a substantial development, and they will have to move quickly for targets such as Lilian Brassier from Stade Brest.
