LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Kentucky
basketball senior guard Otega Oweh was named to the CBS preseason second-team All-America list, the organization announced Tuesday.
Oweh led the Wildcats in scoring last season with 16.2 points per game in his first year at Kentucky. The Newark, New Jersey native scored in double figures in 33 games, including the first 26 contests of the seaso.
The senior guard set career highs in multiple categories during his breakout junior campaign, averaging 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. He also shot 77.6% from the free-throw line and led Kentucky with 57 steals.
Oweh has already been named the Southeastern Conference’s preseason player of the year and earned first-team All-SEC preseason honors.
Last season, he was selected to the All-SEC second team and earned National Association of Basketball Coaches ll-District First-Team recognition.
During the 2023-24 season, Oweh became a 1,000-point scorer during the SEC Tournament. He also became the first player this century to hit two game-winning shots against the same team, accomplishing the feat against Oklahoma both on the road and in the SEC Tournament.

Oweh was joined on the CBS preseason All-America second team by Duke’s Cameron Boozer, BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, Iowa’s Bennett Stirtz and Michigan’s Yaxel Lendeborg.
Kentucky will host exhibition games against Purdue on Oct. 24 and Georgetown on Oct. 30. The Wildcats open the regular season Nov. 4 against Nicholls at Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center at 7 p.m.
