Kentucky hoops had a historically bad win-loss record last year. The roster was full of promise at the beginning of the season, but that promise ultimately went unfulfilled. Injuries were the main culprit when it comes to that failure, but there also ended up being a plain lack of high-end stars.
Though it’s support that comes with a catch: Fans want Pope to keep his promise of a ninth championship banner. It’s clear that things simply haven’t come together on an elite scale just yet for Pope – what with injuries and recruiting mishaps abounding – but year three feels like a real chance to turn things around.

And while some folks on the outside looking in may think Kentucky fans can be too harsh on their well-meaning lead-man, Coach Pope himself has no problem with the consistent criticism.
In a one-on-one interview with Darrell Bird and CatsPause, Pope said of the heat, “If you have a glass chin, don’t take the Kentucky job.” You can’t be mad at that.
