Mark Pope enters the race to land 5-star SG UNC is hoping to keep home
The Kentucky Wildcats and head coach Mark Pope are officially in the hunt to land a Carolina native, hoping to snag him from under his in-state teams.
It’s time to put the past week or so in the rearview mirror and look toward the future for the Kentucky Wildcats and head coach Mark Pope.
After a few… swings and misses… on blue-chip prospects both in the transfer portal and coming out of high school, Pope is continuing to put one foot in front of the other, and the rest of BBN should too.
That includes the recruitment of five-star shooting guard Jordan Page, a native of North Carolina who the Wildcats extended an offer to, hoping to lure him away from his home-state teams and toward the great state of Kentucky.
In the class of 2027, Page has received just four offers after Kentucky joined the race, according to 247Sports. With offers from the UNC Tar Heels, Georgetown Hoyas, and NC State Wolfpack, so far, his recruitment has been focused entirely on the East Coast.
Pope and the Wildcats are hoping to change that.

More likely than not, Page grew up a fan of one of the teams in the state that he calls home, whether that be the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill, the Wolfpack in Raleigh (his hometown), the Wake Forest Deacons in Winston-Salem, or the Duke Blue Devils in Durham.
While the Wildcats’ home in Lexington is a further journey from home, Pope is making the right move by entering the race early in an effort to land Page’s commitment.

During his junior season, the young shooting guard averaged 23.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, posing as an absolute menace on both ends of the court.
Page is exactly the type of player that Kentucky is looking to attract after missing out on a number of prospects and transfers this offseason.
