When Lebron James signed a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, it was major news that could alter the coming NBA season. He’s reported to have signed a two-year deal worth just under $8 million. Next season, he’ll make $3.8 million, which, perhaps shockingly to some, is less than at least two Kentucky Wildcats players.
The New York Times explored the top salaries in college basketball, and after speaking to a number of people in positions to know, are reporting that Momvilovic will make more than James this year, but will be joined by Zoom Diallo in that respect.
There’s no doubt that NIL has completely changed the landscape of college sports. The money available has even reached the point where staying in school is more lucrative than going to the NBA in some cases, which resulted in several players, just this year, skipping the NBA draft. That list includes Kentucky transfer Milan Momcilovic.
Both Momcilovic and Diallo are expected to be major contributors and starters for the Wildcats this coming season. Both have earned the ability to draw the paydays they will receive, but it’s still wild to many people that college players are making more than Lebron.
