The recruitment of the No. 1 rated freshman in the 2026-27 class, Tyran Stokes, has led Mark Pope and Kentucky down to the absolute wire with Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks. It’s a battle of opposing systems, and visions. Kansas offers a Hall of Fame coach looking to make a run before he ultimately make good on his retirement rumorsMark Pope: "I have never coached a team this deep before"

The Wildcats, on the other hand, are working to build a successful system on the back of a former champion player turned head coach. They’ve come close under Pope, but something has been missing. Or perhaps, someone – that someone could be Tyran Stokes.

Now, ahead of his looming decision, Stokes is set to visit Lexington for what could be the final time early this week. It’s a pivotal recruiting juncture for both this coming season, as well as Pope’s tenure in Lexington on the whole; Coach Pope seems to know this, too, and that may be why Stokes isn’t coming alone.

BYU guard Robert Wright III immediately became the portal’s most popular point guard upon his entry. Having averaged 18 points per contest on a 41% clip from downtown, Wright is exactly the kind of guard Kentucky fans have dreamt of as a result of last year’s struggles at the point guard spot.

He scores nearly at will, has two years of collegiate experience running an offense and, of course, has all the merit to sway Stokes’ highly anticipated choice. According to Jeff Goodman, Kentucky is the current leader in Wright’s recruitment, and he’ll visit Lexington at the same time as Stokes.
