Sayvia Sellers led a trio of Washington women’s basketball players who were recognized in the Big Ten annual postseason awards.

The conference coaches unanimously selected Sellers to the All-Big Ten first team while the media tabbed her on the All-Big Ten second team.

Sophomore guard Avery Howell was named an All-Big Ten honorable mention on both ballots. Freshman forward Brynn McGaughy was selected to the eight-member Big Ten All-Freshman team by the coaches and media.

It’s been a breakout year for Sellers, who is tied for sixth in the Big Ten in points per game (19.2) and leads Washington in assists (105) and steals (46).

Sellers has been top scorer in a team-high 15 games for Washington (20-9, 10-8 Big Ten), which captured its first 20-win season and the most conference victories since the 2016-17 season.

“Sayvia is one of the best players in the country,” UW coach Tina Langley said. “She was named to the (Naismith Trophy Late-Season Team) and that’s how good she is. I’m excited to see her continue to be celebrated.”

Sellers is the 22nd player in Husky history to be recognized as first team all-conference and the first since Amber Melgoza in 2020.

“She comes in every day the same and she’s excited to go to practice and get better,” Langley said. “Just day by day, you keep seeing her and get better and better because of that mindset that she has.”

In her first season at Washington, Howell, who transferred from USC, averages 13.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals. She’s tied for fourth in the Big Ten with 71 three-pointers and shoots a team-best 41.8% behind the arc.
