BREAKING NEWS: MARK POPE SET TO LAND 3 TOP TALENT GUARDS IN THE TRANSFER PORTER AS TALKS IN PROGRESS

Kentucky Basketball might have its eyes set on the next starting point guard in Lexington.

One of the big pieces of transfer portal news yesterday involved BYU point guard Rob Wright entering his name in the portal.

Wright immediately became one of the top prospects in the portal, and understandably so. As a sophomore at BYU last season, Wright averaged 18.1 points per game to go along with 3.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He also shot 46.7 percent from the floor, 41 percent from three on 4 attempts/game, and 82.1 percent from the free throw line.3 Kentucky basketball players who probably won't be back next season

According to On3’s Jackson Collier, when Wright entered the portal, Kentucky and Arkansas were thought to be the top contenders, but Collier’s source likes where Kentucky stands in the recruitment.

That’s what one source thinks, but it’s obviously very early, so who knows how things will shape out as more meetings take place and potential visits happen. Around this time last year, Kentucky was briefly a favorite for Donovan Dent, and we all know how that turned out.3 Kentucky basketball players who probably won't be back next season

One of the biggest needs in constructing next year’s roster is finding a star point guard, and Wright fits the bill. Securing Wright as PG1 for the Wildcats next season certainly won’t come cheap, but it sounds like Kentucky is willing to allocate the resources to bring him to Lexington for his third year of college basketball.3 Kentucky basketball players who probably won't be back next season
