Mariners agree to trade with Marlins following Logan Evans’ season-ending injury
The Seattle Mariners will be without 24-year-old starting pitcher Logan Evans for the 2026 season after the second-year player underwent Tommy John surgery to reconstruct a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL).
Evans’ estimated recovery time will be 12 months, and he will miss the entirety of the 2026 season.
In a corresponding move to help replace Evans on the roster, the Mariners completed a trade with the Miami Marlins.
Mariners trade for LHP Josh Simpson from the Marlins
The Seattle Mariners announced that they have acquired left-handed pitcher Josh Simpson from the Miami Marlins in exchange for cash considerations.
Simpson, 28, was added to Seattle’s 40-man roster.
Miami used Simpson as a bullpen pitcher in his first season in the big leagues in 2025. Through 31 appearances, the 2019 MLB First Year Player Draft candidate finished his rookie year with a 4-2 record, 7.34 ERA, and 1.83 WHIP with 36 strikeouts over 30.2 innings.
With a healthy Mariners starting rotation of Luis Castillo, George Kirby, Bryan Woo, Logan Gilbert, and Bryce Miller, Simpson will most likely continue his bullpen duties in Seattle.
He will join a Mariners team that will have high aspirations after losing to the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALCS in seven games last October.
It was the franchise’s deepest postseason un ever, falling short of Seattle’s first World Series appearance in team history.
