lex Bregman is a free agent, and the Red Sox are reportedly trying to re-sign him. Bregman was a huge part of the team, and would be a great player for Boston to keep around.
Along with Bregman in the infield, the Red Sox have Trevor Story and two young players in Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell. Triston Casas is expected to return as the team’s first baseman.
When it’s taken into account that Ceddanne Rafaela also slots in as an infielder at times, the Red Sox have a surplus of talent in the infield. However, players like Campbell and Mayer are still relatively unproven at the big league level. Could the Red Sox consider signing a marquee infielder?
NorthJersey.com’s Pete Caldera shockingly predicted the Red Sox would sign Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays. Bichette is not a great defender at shortstop, but his bat could be a solid addition to the Red Sox lineup.

Bichette could move over to second base, or third base if the Red Sox are unable to retain Bregman. In a world where Bregman and Bichette are both on the team, Boston could slot Bichette in as a designated hitter or second baseman.
Bichette is a great hitter and would be a solid addition for the Red Sox. Having the luxury to use him as a designated hitter more often would keep his glove off the field, which is his only real flaw as a player. He may also be a better defender on the other side of the second base bag.

Bichette will not be cheap. Spotrac projects him to sign an eight-year, $186 million deal in free agency. Adding him and Bregman would fill the Red Sox’s desire to sign multiple big bats while also keeping Campbell, Mayer and Casas all in the fold. Stealing Bichette from their rival, the Toronto Blue Jays, would be a cherry on top.

Bichette is not a true power hitter like Alonso or Schwarber, which is what Boston may prefer. However, he has led the American League in hits twice and still averages around 15 home runs a year.
