Newcastle United and Brentford swap deal suggested to get Yoane Wissa deal done
An intriguing swap deal has been suggested between Brentford and Newcastle United, in order to help get the Yoane Wissa move to St James’ Park over the line.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Newcastle had seen a £25m offer turned down for the Brentford striker.
Thursday then brought an update from Sky Sports who said that discussions were continuing between the two clubs, with a £35m package having been put on the table. Although no word on whether this £35m would all be guaranteed, or whether a part of it would be potential future add-ons.
Yoane Wissa had travelled with the rest of the Brentford squad to Portugal for a pre-season training camp. However, the striker returned to the UK not long after arriving in Portugal, leaving his Brentford teammates, as he wants to get this exit from Brentford pushed through.
We have now got to the weekend and still no news on a successful conclusion to the Yoane Wissa move to Newcastle United.
Interesting then to see a suggestion of a swap deal between the two clubs, in order to help get the deal done.
Local media in London putting forward the idea of Jacob Murphy becoming part of the deal a player plus cash arrangement for Yoane Wissa.
Brentford have major challenges ahead, with it looking all but certain they will lose two players who provided 50 Premier League direct goal involvements last season.
Bryan Mbeumo scoring 20 goals and getting seven assists, Yoane Wissa scoring 19 goals and getting four assists
That has seen London World suggest that the 20 PL direct goal involvements (scoring eight and 12 assists) Jacob Murphy managed last season, could see him an ideal signing for Brentford.

Murphy looks set to return to a back up role, despite his best ever season just gone.
Anthony Elanga looks sure to be first choice and if such a swap deal is/was proposed, you wonder what Jacob Murphy would want to do. He turns 31 during the coming season and the idea of regular first team football may well appeal.
Whilst for Newcastle United, if Brentford insisted on Jacob Murphy as part of a deal for Yoane Wissa, it could well come down to how strongly Eddie Howe feels about bringing Wissa in.
Not a lot of quality players about who can improve this Newcastle United team and back up players, so we may well see NUFC needing to do something like a swap deal to land one or more of their targets.
The chance of Champions League football has previously been reported as a big factor in Wissa wanting to come to Newcastle United and with him set to turn 29 in September, this is a key moment in his career and what he no doubt will hope is his last big move, having been at Brentford for four years.
As mentioned above, the 28 year old striker scored 19 Premier League goals last season for Brentford, plus four assists, making 34 PL starts in 2024/25.
That came after scoring 12 Premier League goals in 2023/24 and getting three assists, making 29 PL starts.
Yoane Wissa won the penalty when Bryan Mbeumo scored in the 2-1 Newcastle win at St James’ Park in April 2025. Before that, Wissa scored in all of the most recent three matches when Brentford faced Newcastle United, the 4-2 NUFC win at Brentford in May 2024, the 4-2 Brentford win in December 2024, plus the 3-1 Newcastle Carabao Cup win, also in December 2024.
Wissa has just one year left on his current Brentford contract but the club do have the option of triggering an extra year.
