A’s Trade for Wynns; Brewers Claim Avans from Oakland
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Athletics have acquired catcher Austin Wynns from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for cash, the team announced Sunday.
Also on Sunday, the Milwaukee Brewers picked up outfielder Drew Avans off waivers from the Athletics and assigned him to Triple-A Nashville.
Wynns, 34, had an impressive showing with the Reds, hitting .400 with a .442 on-base percentage, three home runs, and 11 RBIs over 18 games. Over his MLB career, he has played in 256 games for five teams — the Orioles, Giants, Dodgers, Rockies, and Reds — compiling a .241 average with 16 homers and 74 RBIs.
Avans, who turns 29 this week, struggled in limited big-league action, going 1-for-15 in seven games with Oakland. However, he performed well in Triple-A Las Vegas, slashing .328/.414 with four homers, 34 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases in 48 games.
