Smith-Shawver (2-2) set a personal best with eight scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit—a leadoff single by Santiago Espinal in the eighth—alongside four walks and five strikeouts over 99 pitches, 60 of which were strikes.

Matt Olson contributed an inside-the-park homer after Reds rookie outfielder Tyler Callihan briefly had the ball in his glove before crashing into the wall and breaking his left forearm, allowing Olson to round the bases.

Cincinnati starter Brady Singer (4-2) gave up four runs on seven hits across six innings.

Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman each launched two-run homers to help the Los Angeles Dodgers secure a win over the Miami Marlins in their series opener.
