Phillies’ Ranger Suarez gets big free agent update after Blue Jays’ Dylan Cease deal

The Philadelphia Phillies saw three big players hit the open market. While a lot of attention is on Kyle Schwarber and JT Realmuto, Ranger Suarez’s free agency is one of the more interesting ones to watch this offseason.

In the wake of the Toronto Blue Jays’ decision to sign Dylan Cease to a massive seven-year, $210 million deal, there were bound to be ripples impacting the rest of the free agent market.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, Saurez is one of the biggest beneficiaries of that Cease deal. Other than setting the market very high, Suarez’s free agency is looking like it’s on the upswing in the aftermath of the massive Cease contract.

With Cease’s agent, Scott Boras, also being the agent for Suarez, the soon-to-be former Phillies pitcher has a leg up on negotiations thanks to his agent already inking his clients a free agent deal this winter.

Tatsuya Imai, Framber Valdez, and Michael King are rounding out the top options left on the market other than Suarez. But, for the soon-to-be former Phillies starter, his market looks to be materializing.

In the aftermath of the $210 million contract for Cease, Feinsand predicts that Suarez will be the next starter to sign a deal this winter.

With Boras as his agent, Suarez is likely headed elsewhere to sign a massive contract. While the Phillies could try to bring him back, they are more likely to focus on re-signing Schwarber and Realmuto.

Suarez is a fan-favorite in Philadelphia, and with this massive contract for Cease, his chances of coming back to the Phillies are slim to none.
