Outside of losing in the World Series, the Phillies have struggled when it matters most.
Not all that falls on Schwarber, but there’s also a part of this story that suggests if Schwarber and the Phillies don’t at least make the World Series this year, how can they continue to run the same team back?
Despite that question, Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report believes Schwarber will stay in free agency, adding that it’ll likely take a four- to five-year deal to keep him around.
“Schwarber has the Phillies over a barrel having hit a career-high 49 home runs in his contract year. But both Phillies managing partner John Middleton and president of baseball operations have reiterated a desire to retain him.
“It will likely take four or five years—and probably fending off other suitors—but there would be a mutiny among the fanbase if the Phillies allow him to leave in free agency,” he wrote.

Schwarber has made it seem in the past that he wants to stay in Philadelphia.
Of course, that could change if another team puts a $100-plus million deal in front of his face, but the early signs have been promising.
