£40m Everton transfer raid could spell bad news for West Brom as rivals ‘open talks’ with midfield gem
West Brom have until the end of the window to complete any incoming or outgoing bits of business
West Brom face Blackburn Rovers at home this weekend in their first game of the new Championship season. They will be eager to start with a win in front of their own fans at The Hawthorns. The Baggies’ aim will be to finish as high as possible in the table after missing out on the play-offs in the last campaign.
Ryan Mason has been picked as their head coach this summer. The 34-year-old, who retired from playing back in 2016, was handed a three-year deal by the Midlands outfit. He left his coaching staff role at Tottenham Hotspur to join them.
According to Sky Sports, Everton have had a £27million bid rejected by Southampton for Tyler Dibling. The report adds that the player could be sold for around £40million. Aston Villa, Chelsea, Tottenham and RB Leipzig have also been mentioned as suitors.
If the Saints sell Dibling, they will need to find a replacement to fill the void left by his potential exit. Football Insider claim they will ‘open talks’ over a possible swoop for West Brom star Tom Fellows. The Baggies will be desperate to keep hold of the winger over the coming weeks.
West Brom will have one eye on the Dibling situation at Southampton. If the Saints sell him, they will have money to throw at Fellows. They were relegated from the Premier League last term after finishing in the bottom three with Ipswich Town and Leicester City and they have since turned to Will Still as their manager.
When asked whether he thought Fellows would stay put, ex-EFL man Don Goodman delivered his verdict, as per Football League World: “I don’t know whether it’s my heart over my head, but I’d love to say yes. West Bromwich Albion are a club that want to be challenging at the top end of the Championship, so selling undoubtedly one of your best players — who assisted 14 goals last season — would probably not be the statement of intent that West Brom fans would want from this new ownership.
“So I already said that he would personally be better served from another season in the Championship doing really well before maybe getting a shot in the Premier League. I don’t know whether it’s my heart ruling over my head, but I would love to think that he will start the season at West Brom.”
West Brom have delved into the market to bring in Aune Heggebo, George Campbell and Nat Phillips. The latter joined from Liverpool after spending time on loan at Derby County. The Baggies have also cut ties with the likes of Semi Ajayi, John Swift and Grady Diangana, among others.
