Bryan Mbuemo to Man United transfer latest as third bid expected amid Brentford U-turn
Manchester United are facing the slight prospect of missing out on Bryan Mbeumo after seeing their second bid turned down by Brentford.
An offer worth £55millon plus £7.5m in add-ons was rejected after the Bees snubbed United’s opening offer worth £55m at the start of June. Mbeumo is understood to want to join Ruben Amorim’s team but there is yet to be an agreement between the two clubs.
Despite seeming to be close to signing the 25-year-old last month, there are now doubts of a deal being completed. United are focused on being disciplined in their spending this summer after already paying £62.5m for Matheus Cunha.
Getting Mbeumo through the door is still the priority with Amorim desperate to sign him before a crucial pre-season schedule. Below is the latest on United’s pursuit of Brentford.
After Brentford refused to budge on their stance of receiving more than the £62.5m Wolves received for Cunha, The Athletic have reported that talks are ongoing between the two clubs.
A third bid is expected to be formally submitted but United aren’t likely to offer more than want to pay for the 20-goal forward. Brentford reportedly want £65m for Mbeumo.
If Mbeumo does come to United, he may be reunited with a former teammate in Ollie Watkins. Reports on Monday night via The Athletic claimed that the Aston Villa striker is on the Reds’ list of centre-forwards if Rasmus Hojlund departs.
It’s said that contact has been made between United and Aston Villa, via intermediaries, to explore a possible deal.
