Newcastle in talks to sign Aït Boudlal after ‘concrete offer’ from Liverpool – Report
Earlier this week, The Mail revealed that Newcastle United were showing interest in a certain Ligue 1 talent.
That man was Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal: a 19-year-old Rennes centre-back who has been watched by Toon scouts after starring at the Under-20 African Cup of Nations last month.
Steve Nickson is thought to be a fan and is developing his scouting network in Africa, although it seems the club are facing competition for his signature as another potential ‘project player’, much like incoming Malaga winger Antonio Cordero.
A few days on from news of our interest, Moroccan outlet Le360 Sport report that Newcastle United have actually ‘met with the player’ over a potential move to St James’ Park.
However, it seems we are not the only Premier League club bidding to sign the teenage defender, with the same report revealing that Liverpool have made a ‘concrete offer.’
Aït Boudlal hasn’t actually made a first team appearance for Rennes, but did gain experience at senior level over the 2024/25 season, spending the second half of the campaign at Ligue 2 side Amiens.
The 6ft 2′ centre-back has captained his country at youth level and broke into Rennes’ matchday squads last term before heading out on loan.
Rennes’ academy is renowned for producing top talent, with Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga and PSG duo Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele both hailing from the Northwest France club.
