It has been reported that the Chicago Cubs want to sign 23-year-old Pete Crow-Armstrong to an extension. However, a leading MLB insider cautions against PCA agreeing to a deal at this time.
According to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic, the Cubs are amenable to a contract extension during the season for the young center fielder. Prior to the Tokyo Series season opener in Chicago against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the two parties exchanged proposals but postponed discussions.
Crow-Armstrong is experiencing a breakout season with the first-place Cubs, establishing himself as a contender for the National League MVP. He is delivering a Gold Glove-caliber performance in center field, with 14 home runs, 13 doubles, three triples, an .856 OPS, a 139 OPS+, and a league-leading 3.1 bWAR in the NL.
Since Crow-Armstrong won’t become a free agent until after the 2030 season at age 28, there’s ample time to finalize a deal. However, Ken Rosenthal, an MLB insider for The Athletic, believes it would not be wise for the emerging star to sign an extension at this time.
On the “Foul Territory” podcast, Rosenthal stated, “If I’m PCA, I’m not signing anything at the moment.” „Ich positioniere mich als Spieler der Spitzenklasse.“
Rosenthal clarified that position players face a lower risk of injury than pitchers regarding extensions. He also highlighted Ronald Acuña Jr., a superstar with the Atlanta Braves, who has experienced two torn ACLs in his career yet made comebacks on both occasions.

The Cubs obtained Crow-Armstrong from the New York Mets during the 2021 trade deadline in exchange for pitcher Trevor Williams and two-time All-Star infielder Javier Baez.
