Schwarber Belts 300th Career Homer as Phillies Storm Past Rockies
DENVER — Kyle Schwarber launched the 300th home run of his career — a towering 466-foot solo shot into the third deck in right field — as the Philadelphia Phillies surged past the struggling Colorado Rockies, 9-3, on Monday night.
Edmundo Sosa chipped in with four hits, including his first home run of the year, while Alec Bohm delivered a pivotal two-run blast during a four-run eighth inning that gave the Phillies the lead. Philadelphia has now won four consecutive games.
Joe Ross (2-1) earned the win in relief after a strong six-inning start from Cristopher Sánchez.
Colorado’s Kyle Freeland gave up one run on seven hits over 5⅓ innings but remains winless on the season. Ezequiel Tovar homered and had two RBIs for the Rockies, whose 8-39 record marks the worst 47-game start in modern MLB history.
The Phillies tied the game in the seventh with a sacrifice fly from Bryce Harper and pulled ahead in the eighth when Bohm hit his third homer of the year off Seth Halvorsen (0-1). Trea Turner followed with a two-run double to extend the lead.
Philadelphia added insurance in the ninth with home runs from Schwarber — his 16th this season — and Sosa off reliever Scott Alexander.
Schwarber’s 300th homer adds to an already impressive résumé. He hit seven home runs during a 41-game stretch with Boston in 2021, helping the Red Sox reach the postseason, where he homered in the AL Wild Card Game against the Yankees, as well as in both the ALDS and ALCS.
