Major Blow: Cubs Manager Gives Update on Injuries to Four Star Players
The Chicago Cubs have been one of the top-performing teams in Major League Baseball this season, starting strong with a 21-14 record and holding a three-game lead in the National League Central.
A Strong Start Amidst Tough Competition
What makes this success even more impressive is the level of competition the Cubs have already faced. Their March and April schedule was considered the toughest in the league based on last year’s team records. Despite that, the Cubs wrapped up April at 18-13 and have continued their momentum into May with a 3-1 record.
Offense Leading the Way
The Cubs’ red-hot offense has fueled their early-season dominance. They currently lead MLB in batting average (.262), runs scored (208), stolen bases (45), and total hits (323). Key contributors to this surge include breakout performances from Pete Crow-Armstrong, Michael Busch, Carson Kelly, and a surging Seiya Suzuki.
But Rotation Depth Is a Growing Concern
Despite their offensive prowess, the Cubs face a critical issue: starting pitching. After losing ace Justin Steele to a season-ending injury, the team has leaned heavily on bullpen arms to fill rotation gaps. Even with those challenges, Chicago’s starters have held their own with a 3.44 ERA—fifth-best in the league.
Now, More Trouble: Imanaga Hurt
However, things have taken another unfortunate turn. Star pitcher Shota Imanaga suffered a potential injury during a game. Manager Craig Counsell addressed the situation postgame:
“He felt something while running to first base,” Counsell said. “We’ll do some imaging to figure out what’s going on. He’s never dealt with a lower-body muscle strain before, so he’s not sure what to make of the sensation. We’ll know more tomorrow.”
