Breaking News: Insider Names Yankees’ Slugger as Surprising Trade Candidate

Breaking News: Yankees Slugger Paul Goldschmidt Surprisingly Mentioned as Potential Trade Chip

The New York Yankees, one of MLB’s top contenders, are expected to bolster their roster before the trade deadline. Yet in a surprising twist, Bleacher Report’s MLB insider Kerry Miller has suggested that veteran first baseman Paul Goldschmidt could be on the trading block.

Miller emphasized that, as things stand, it’s unlikely the Yankees would part with Goldschmidt, calling him one of the team’s most valuable hitters. He noted that if Goldschmidt were to disappear from the lineup, opponents might be more inclined to pitch around Aaron Judge more often.

Still, Miller added that if certain scenarios work in the Yankees’ favor, the front office might consider dealing the 37-year-old for starting pitching help—provided Goldschmidt maintains his strong performance at the plate.

Despite his standout play this season—batting .353 with 3 homers and 17 RBIs as of May 5—there’s a possibility the Yankees explore a trade if it helps address their rotation needs.

Another factor that could impact Goldschmidt’s future is the potential change in his role. Ben Rice could become the team’s everyday first baseman, and with Giancarlo Stanton nearing a return from injury, Goldschmidt’s regular spot in the lineup might become uncertain.

“If Rice continues producing and Stanton returns from his elbow issues in the coming months, trade talks involving Goldschmidt might gain traction,” Miller said. He questioned whether the Yankees would prefer to hold on to all three—Goldschmidt, Stanton, and Rice—for depth, or use Goldschmidt to acquire a much-needed starter for the postseason.

Given the risk factors—Goldschmidt’s age, Stanton’s injury history, and Rice’s limited MLB experience—Miller acknowledged that keeping Goldschmidt as insurance could be wise.

Goldschmidt, a seven-time All-Star and former NL MVP, is on a one-year, $12.5 million deal with the Yankees.

Meanwhile, Stanton is inching closer to a return. After dealing with injuries to both elbows during spring training, he is scheduled to face Jake Cousins in live batting practice on May 6.

“It’s going well. Hopefully I’m not out too much longer,” Stanton told YES Network. “There will be good and bad days—you’ve just got to stay positive and keep going.”

Last season, Stanton batted .233 with 27 home runs and 72 RBIs.
