Breaking News: Red Sox: $38.5M Starter Makes Boston Shock Announcement Regarding His Future With Boston Red Sox
— Lucas Giolito, who signed a two-year, $38.5 million deal with the Boston Red Sox in December 2023, is set to finally make his debut for the team.
The 30-year-old right-handed pitcher has been activated from the injured list and will take the mound Wednesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays. The game is scheduled to start at 7:07 p.m. at Rogers Centre.
Giolito missed the entire 2024 season up to this point due to an internal brace procedure on his elbow, following an injury sustained during spring training. A hamstring strain in his first spring start had also initially sidelined him.
Toronto will counter with right-hander Yariel Rodríguez, who will be making his first start of the season after 10 relief appearances. Rodríguez, who has a 4.63 ERA over 11 ⅔ innings, is expected to pitch only briefly as part of a bullpen game strategy.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora will use his standard lineup against right-handed pitchers.
